The US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), a branch of the US Treasury Department, cancelled in early June the licenses of three travel agencies in Miami and Washington that arranged travel and money transfers to Cuba.

Molly Millerwise, OFAC’s spokesperson said that the companies La Perla del Caribe, Transeair Travel and Uno Remmittance "are immediately unauthorized to operate as service providers to Cuba from US territory." There are some 250 agencies authorized to offer services to Cuba in the US.

Since early 2006, OFAC suspended the licenses for some 30 agencies including some that organized religious trips. Since June 2005, some 14,000 people traveled from the United States to Cuba this way, which has become a means to beat restrictions on family travel, which is only allowed once every three years.

The Cuban government called the measure "part of the United States’ economic war" on Cuba.
