Colombia has a new president but who is really running the show? The US has already spent close to US$1 billion on Plan Colombia, not to mention the rest of the Andean region. What is the impact of the continuing conflict on Colombia and its neighboring countries? What are the potential solutions on the table, not just from the usual suspects, but also from the grassroots and civil society?

All this and more is covered in "Conflict Colombia", the newly-published 120-page report including journalistic essays filed by Latinamerica Press correspondents from across the region and inside the conflict zone.

The report consists of four sections: the context of the violence, including a description of the groups involved; peace initiatives; U.S. policy toward Colombia and the Andean Region; and the effects of the violence and anti-drug policies. The sections can be read separately or as a whole.
